Loudness Measurement and Audio Analysis

At a Glance

SAMloudio  provides a comprehensive Loudness Measurement and Audio Monitoring according ITU-R BS.1770.3, EBU R-128 and ATSC A/85. It comprises a True Peak Measurement for all sub-channels, including oversampling for enhanced accuracy, a Loudness Range calculation and much more useful measurements and features around Audio analysis. The solution enables network operators to monitor the Audio parts of Digital TV and/or Digital Radio broadcasts both via SNMP and visually, unattended at 24/7.

Key Features

  • 24/7 SNMP based Loudness + Audio monitoring
  • visual Loudness monitoring via live meters
  • monitoring of 100+ audio channels simultaneously on a single device
  • support of Digital TV and Digital Radio
  • IP and ASI input
  • RF input (e.g. via SAMcorder)

Audio Monitoring

  • Audio Signal loss
  • Audio Channel Freeze detection
  • Audio Channel Silence detection
  • Audio Sub-Channel loss

Loudness Measurements

  • Integrated gated Loudness according
    – ITU-R BS.1770.3
    – EBU R-128
    – ATSC A/85 – CALM act compliance
  • Integrated gated Loudness
    – over past minute
    – over past 1h, 6h and 24 hours
  • Momentary Loudness ten times a second
  • Short Term Loudness over past 3 seconds
  • True Peak Level (TPL) measurement of every sub-channel incl. oversampling for optimal accuracy
  • Loudness Range
Loudness Measurement

IP/UDP
SAMloudio can receive the Audio streams via IP/UDP Both unicast an multicast streams are supported.

IPC
The IPC – Interprocess Communication – interface is especially suited if SAMloudio gets used within the dtvTools tool-chain.

Audio Monitoring

[1] Digital TV / Digital Radio Monitoring Network
Monitoring Probes receive the audio data via RF, ASI or IP.  Following input formats are supported:
PCM :  –  raw audio data before encoding or after decoding
PES :  –  packetized elementary stream after encoding   or before decoding
TS :  –  Digital TV MPEG Transport   Stream
All audio parameters for all channels are analyzed simultaneously in real-time. The monitoring results and alarms are sent via SNMP to the operation centers.

[2] Operation Center
The Network Management System (NMS) running in the operation center receives all monitoring results and alarms via SNMP and visualize these for the operators service staff.  Any NMS can be used, however, the decontis NMS provides a lot of unique features and thus is qualified perfectly as central operator component.

[3] Administration + Maintenance
Network administration and maintenance staff can access the monitoring probes via SNMP or via Remote Desktop using the comfortable GUI. Beside all configuration tasks also remote problem analysis can be performed right in the probe’s powerful analysis GUI or by capturing and streaming of TS snapshots to the local desk. With decontis Analysis Solutions the TS can be analyzed in any regard up to the last bit.

[4] Visual Monitoring
Particular programs, the complete A/V mosaic wall or even the entire monitoring desktop can be streamed via HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) to remote locations. That way visual confidence monitoring can be performed via any device having a web browser, regardless on the  used OS  – i.e. Tablet, PC, Smartphone, Laptop …  using  Windows, Android, iOS, Linux …
